One of the timeless pieces of wardrobe you can have in your closet is also one of those that every season gets an interesting style twist. I am talking about the denim jacket.
I, in fact, own a couple of denim jackets, and I know I could have at least three more without a dash of guilt, as you can get them in so different colors, embellishments, treatments that it might be consider a completely different piece from the ones I already have! Right now, one of those styles is the distressed denim jacket, with visible ripped holes, hanging pieces of fabric and thread. And, just like the ripped jeans, it has been gaining popularity for a while.
Although my grandmother would argue about the whole why-paying-for-something-that-is-already-trashed, I think it is one of those pieces that can be combined in several ways to create different intensity of edgy. Here are two approaches with ideas to mix and match a ripped denim jacket: Go for a edgy total look with leather bottoms, statement boots and a simple top, or use it to mix it with non-matchy pieces, such a Peter Pan collar top or an simple LBD. I prepared a couple of style mood boards for you to get inspired with ideas of possible combinations for this piece of clothing.
The preppy style:
The edgy style:
In both cases anyways, use at least another edgy piece on your outfit, so the ripped denim jacket looks intentional and not like something you could just found laying on your sofa on your way out of the house. It can be a piece of jewelry, a hat, a belt or a handbag. That will make the non-verbal message more clear to everyone: I am here to have fun.
Just throw the jacket on and enjoy!
