This is a sponsored post written by me in partnership with Latina Bloggers Connect and Disney Channel. Our love and excitement for Elena of Avalor is completely ours!
When I was a child it was hard for me to feel attached to any of the princesses that were showed in the pictures. I loved them as characters, but I felt that we had nothing in common. Only Belle, from The Beauty and the Beast, felt closer to me: She was a brunette bookworm girl that was always nice to everyone, except with Gaston, who was such a jerk he deserved it.
Eventually, I grew up and, obviously, princesses were not that interesting for me anymore. Until I had a baby girl and Disney came back to my life, stronger than ever. My daughter is one of those girls that would love to be called a princess until someone points out that “a princess wouldn’t be running around” or “a princess won’t be doing this or that”. In other words, she likes the idea of the royal treatment, but not compromising her own ideas or desires just because that is the way a princess would do. And I am OK with that. I thought that, like me, she just would not find a character that fits her personality.
And then, I found out about Elena of Avalor, who is inspired by the Latin American culture and folklore and swings into action to take her rightful place as Crown Princess in the kingdom of Avalor. It made me feel very excited about this new character and her adventures! Even more, Elena’s younger sister, Princess Isabel, has the same name as my daughter, the grandfather’s name is the same as my daughter’s dad and the grandmother’s name is the same as my own grandmother! Too many wonderful coincidences happening here, don’t you think?
I told to my Isabel -AKA Mini- about this and she got very excited too. Now, we have everything ready to watch the premiere on Friday July 22nd, when the new series, Elena of Avalor premieres at 7pm/6c on Disney Channel and Disney Junior! One of our friends, who lives in New Jersey, is planning to connect via FaceTime with us so we can watch this first episode together, how cool is that?
If you haven’t seen the trailer, you can watch it here and keep going on its interactive features.
You will discover how Elena embraces some of the most beautiful characteristics of Latin American heritage with courageousness, bravery and compassion. More about her and her family and friends on the Elena of Avalor Facebook page
